Tango is a beautiful improvised dance, and so we will not teach you using sequences of steps. We help you to enjoy Tango by exploring the fascinating different possibilities of combinations of movements.

What if I don't have a partner for the lessons?

It's OK to come without a partner. During the lessons we change dance partners frequently. This is because dancing with different people helps you to learn faster. It's also good preparation for Tango dance events, where you will be dancing with lots pof digfferent people. Everyone is learning together so it can be good fun too!

What clothes should I wear?

don't know what he's saying, but it looks very important :-)

The lessons are informal, so wear comfortable casual clothes. Your choice of shoes can make a big difference:

For ladies a shoe style with a small heel, leather sole, ankle straps, and an enclosed toe for comfort. Smooth soles will help you to pivot easily.

The best choice for men is smooth (ideally leather) soled shoes that are close fitting around the front. We do not recommend dance 'pumps' or trainers.

What if I have to miss a lesson?

If you can't attend every lesson then don't worry; the lessons every week start with a short introduction and a recap of what we learnt previously.

You could also come to the lessons at a different venue; the lessons are the same at all our venues each week.

Which lessons are the right ones for me?

Lesson 1 is for people who have not danced Tango before. It includes the principles of the Tango embrace, posture & balance, leading & following. You will learn the Tango style of walking, cross steps, forward & backward Ochos, and improvising a dance to different types of Tango music including Tango Milonga.

If you are comfortable with these elements, then Lesson 2 introduces you to the Giro (circular movements), followers' decoration steps, and movements such as Barridas (sweeping movements), and Ganchos (stylish leg hooks). We also explore dancing to Tango Milonga & Tango Vals, and introduce you to dancing in a close embrace.

Lesson 3 is suitable only for more experienced dancers who are comfortable with dancing in a close embrace. If you want to join in lesson 3 then please ask us first.

If you are not sure which level is best for you then please ask us. We will be very happy to make sure that you get the best value from the lessons.

What is the music like?

In the lessons we play traditional Tango music and perhaps some modern tunes too; in fact, anything that is easy to for dancing Tango.
