Directions to the Eton Tea Dances

Parking

Parking in Eton can be busy at peak periods & the summer, so allow time to find a parking space. We have use of a private car park, but spaces are limited, so if you are local dancers there needs to be at least 3 people in the car if you use our car park. This will help everyone get a space, and saves petrol costs too!

Music selection

Eton tango events are well-known for the quality of the music. Charles plays a structured and rich variety of the very best classic tango, milonga and vals from the 'Golden Age' played in tandas with cortinas.

Talcum powder

Please DON'T ever have any talc on your shoes when you come to our tango events in Eton. Talc, or any other powder, simply isn't necessary because the Baldwin Hall has a lovely floor, and talc will spoil what is probably the best dance floor in the area! That's why the hall's owners have threatened to stop our tango events if talc is ever used.

Floorcraft & etiquette

At our dance events all dancers are expected to respect the best standards of floorcraft and consideration for other dancers. This helps everyone to enjoy an afternoon of pleasant dancing. We expect everyone to follow these rules:

Please do:

Try to use the 'Cabeceo' to request & accept dances.

'Merge' into the line of dance without interrupting other dancers.

Keep a constant flow of movement around the dance floor.

Dance in a constant lane around the edge of the dance floor.

Keep your distance to the couple in front, and avoid overtaking.
Apologise briefly if you bump into other dancers.
Aim to dance with one partner for each 'Tanda' of 3 or 4 tracks.

Leave the dance floor during the “Cortina” between Tandas.

Please don't:

Step or travel against the line of dance.

Dance in the middle of the floor.

Dance in one spot and obstruct the line of dance.
Use steps or movements that risk kicks or collisions.
Stop during the dance to chat.
Make sudden changes of direction or change lanes
.

Use excessive space with show moves.

Teach each other steps.

Stand or sit obstructing the dance floor.

Walk across the dance floor.
